The Old Continent has many names, and for most of history, those names were synonymous with ‘earth’ or ‘world’. One might distinguish the various geographical regions or political boundaries with proper names, but there was never any need to refer to all of the land, for there was nothing else outside of it. There was the world, and there was the great ocean surrounding it, known across cultures as the Abyss. With the recent discovery of the new continent, most people have stuck with their definition of ‘world’, and have simply decided that there can be many.
